Help organise SimpleInvoices.org

Hi Guys,

Work is moving forward for a 2013 release but we've got a few non coding things we need help with and looking for a people to run different parts of SimpleInvoices.org

Translation manager

Matt setup an online translation server for SimpleInvoices at transifex.com and looks great but as its not directly linked to our code in github we need someone to continually update transifex and merge the new files into our main code.
No coding is require, just need someone to own this process and help us get more transations

Wiki manager: Move full wiki to GitHub

The wiki for SimpleInvoices has been split over a few platforms for a few reason we're looking for someone to merge and cleanup all the wiki pages into 1 location at our github wiki

Website manager: Move current website to Jekyll and run using GitHub Pages

Currently our website simpleinvoices.org is maintained using Dokuwiki and store on a digitalocean vps, but a better option for an open source project is to store and manage the website via github pages : http://pages.github.com/

We need someone to help convert our mixed static and dokuwiki site to a jekyll : http://jekyllrb.com (or similar) website

Four Students to Work on GIMP During GSoC2013 Program

Four students will be working on GIMP and GEGL this summer thanks to Google Summer of Code 2013 program.

  • Ajay Ramanathan will be working on a combined selection tool;
  • Carlos Zubieta will be porting GEGL operations to OpenCL;
  • Simon Lui will improve support for PSD in GIMP (text layers as text etc.);
  • Marek Dvorožňák will add a new tool to deform an image objects in a way that they behave like real world objects (see YouTube demo).

We are looking forward to the upcoming three months of exciting work with our new contributors.

While getting prepared to a new run of the Google Summer of Code program, we merged code from a few past GSoC projects, namely Warp Transform and Seamless Paste tools.

The Warp Transform tool is an interactive on-canvas version of our old iWarp plug-in, and it’s in a good shape to be part of a future v2.10 release. It still needs a few internal and user interface changes, though.

The Seamless Paste tool does just that: seamless pasting of an object from one picture into another, optionally updating color characteristics. This tool needs a lot more work. Barak Itkin recently posted an update in his blog to outline the changes to be made.

Open Source whistle-blower system

The New Yorker magazine on Wednesday unveiled a new online system for anonymous whistleblower tips, based on technology developed by the late Internet activist Aaron Swartz and a former hacker.

The system called Strongbox was unveiled amid an uproar in the news media over the US government seizure of phone logs from the Associated Press, in a probe of a news leak which officials said threatened national security.

“This morning, The New Yorker launched Strongbox, an online place where people can send documents and messages to the magazine, and we, in turn, can offer them a reasonable amount of anonymity,” senior editor Amy Davidson said.

GNOME 3.8.2

GNOME 3.8.2 is available right now on, full of fixes, documentation and
translation updates, get its sources from our servers, or binaries from
your distribution servers, and enjoy this second update to GNOME 3.8.

We are now moving back deep into development territory, there will be
no further coordinated 3.8 releases (individual module maintainers may
still publish new stable tarballs); our next release will be 3.9.2, to
be published at the end of the month.
